We asked our resident amateur radio enthusiast, Eric, to tell us about the Dayton Hamvention this weekend. The Dayton Amateur Radio Association (DARA) has been a huge supporter of the Dayton Maker Faire since our very first year, and we’re looking forward to what they have in store for #DMMF18. Of course, if you want the HAM deep dive, you’ve got to check out Hamvention too!
Dates: 18-20 May 2018 (Fri-Sun)
Location: Greene County Fairgrounds, Xenia, OH
Tickets: $22 in advance / $27 at the door
Come join in the fun at the world’s largest amateur radio gathering. All major amateur radio and accessory manufacturers will be in attendance to show off their latest offerings, with many resellers offering every imaginable electronic item for purchase. If you like to “wheel and deal” also check out the flea market area for all kinds of used equipment from current and previous generations.
Several forums, or mini classes, offered each day allow for learning opportunities with the best and brightest in the hobby.
There will be live demonstrations of amateur satellite communications and emergency response communications vehicles. Also featured is a STEM area where youth can build electronic kits at no additional cost.
Jeremy (@KF7IJZ) from the Ham Radio Workbench podcast (http://www.hamradioworkbench.com/) will be in booth 3104 offering several custom printed circuit boards for sale to kickstart your next project. Stop by and tell him you’re looking forward to seeing him at the Dayton Mini Maker Faire in August!
If you’re at all interested in radio communications or electronics, don’t miss this opportunity right in our own backyard to meet up with like-minded folks from all over the world!
